Kilmartin Castle was built in 1550, when Mary Queen of Scots was on the throne, for the Rector of Kilmartin, John Carswell, who later became Bishop of the Isles. The castle was then held by the Campbell Clan for 200 years before being abadondoned for 200 more.
Kilmartin Castle is a semi-fortified, late 16th c. residence and has a private situation to the north of the small Argyll village of Kilmartin, with excellent views of the surrounding countryside It was built as a variation of the popular Z-plan, consisting of a main block lying north and south, with round towers projecting from the south-west and north-east corners.

A few years ago, they decided the castle was ready for a new set of owners and put it up for sale.
