Completed in 2017 by Bjarke Ingels Group, Copenhill is a 41,000m2 waste-to-energy plant with an urban recreation center and environmental education hub. The building, which is now an architectural landmark, embodies the notion of sustainability aligning with Copenhagen’s goal of becoming the world’s first carbon-neutral city by 2025. Designed by Danish architecture firm BIG (founded by architect Bjarke Ingels) and opened in 2019, CopenHill aligns with the city’s ambitious goal of becoming the first carbon neutral capital by Copenhill uses Copenhagen’s trash to produce electricity and radiant heating. The plant—designed by Bjarke Ingels Group and design firm SLA—is a multiuse attraction for locals and visitors alike. For Bjarke Ingels Group, the idea for the firm’s CopenHill project was tied to the idea of combining a waste-to-energy plant with a ski slope for the citizens of Copenhagen.

Amager Bakke also known as Amager Slope or CopenHill, is a combined heat and power waste-to-energy plant in Copenhagen, Denmark. The plant is designed by Bjarke Ingels Group with a 85 m tall sloped roof that doubles as year-round artificial ski slope, hiking slope and climbing wall.
